Mar 4, 2010: Flea Market Kicks off its 27th Season

As February's record snows slowly melt off the Capitol Hill lots at Hine School, home to The Flea Market at Eastern Market every Sunday, we've decided to celebrate by launching our most extravagant gift certificate give away ever.
"We'll warm up by giving away a few hundred dollars in Five Dollar gift certificates at other DC area events in which I'm participating the next two Sundays," announced Flea Market Manager Tom Rall.
Kickoff for the distribution will begin 11 am through 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the 6th Annual Washington DC Travel & Adventure Show at the Washington Convention Center. Look for us in booth number 434, sponsored by Cultural Tourism DC (CTDC) of which the flea market is a member organization.
The booth is located in the "Discover America" aisle and will feature a Staycations theme according to CTDC Membership Manager Pamela Jafari.  "CTDC is one of our most important memberships and we're excited to be accepted for inclusion in the show," noted Rall, who has accepted a Best Bets award for "The Best Place to Take an Out-of-Town Visitor" on behalf of Eastern Market.
"The booth theme nicely dovetails with our own promotions, which have been designed to create both a metropolitan and international destination, for many years," Rall said.
The gift certificate distribution will continue Sunday, March 14 at the 27th Annual Spring D.C. Antique Photo Show at the Holiday Inn Westpark, 1900 N. Ft. Myer Drive, Arlington 22209.
Rall manages the photo show for Diverse Markets Management, a DC-based company headed by Michael Berman, also director of programming for the flea market. "Tom has been a seller of antique photography for many years, so it made sense for us to take over this long-running local show when it became available following the 2008 event," said Berman.
The DC Antique Photo Show opens with an 8:30 AM $20 preview admission and continues 10 AM to 4 PM with a $5 public admission. Probably the longest running photo image show in the country, it features a full range of antique photo imagery, including Daguerreotypes, CDVs, stereoviews, lantern slides, tintypes, postcards, albums, movie stills, press photos and more.
"We'll wait until after the last snow drips off the flea market grounds and we're able to operate at full capacity again before we launch our blow out spring celebration gift certificate give away," Rall promised. "Be sure to open our next newsletter for details. It'll be an Eastern Market Net exclusive!

Flea Market exhibitor Bill Holland was featured in a recent Washington Post Gazette newspaper article recently. Holland has amassed "a collection of 700 vintage cookbooks that he has begun to sell online," wrote Reporter Elahe Izadi. "He worked as a journalist for Billboard Magazine, but when the magazine shuttered its Washington, D.C., bureau in 2005, Holland beefed up his general book collection and joined his wife, Marianne LaRoche, in selling collectibles at her Eastern Market stand."
