Mar 5, 2013: Kicking Off New Season at The Flea Market

The traditional March opening of The Flea Market at Eastern Market, Sundays on Capitol Hill, kicked off its 30th anniversary year last Sunday.
"We're looking forward to another great year in our Hine School location directly across from the historic Eastern Market," said Michael Berman, president of Diverse Markets Management (DMM) which operates the flea. "We expect to host more than 100 exhibitors each week and to continue our 'Food at the Flea' and "Music in the Yard' features as the weather improves.
"We're working particularly hard to present an exciting and diverse product mix," Berman continued. "Because we've been operating at full capacity for several years, we now have waiting lists throughout most of the season. But some exhibitor spaces are usually available early in the season, even though we've discontinued winter month discounts offered in January and February."
Located at 7th and C Streets SE on Capitol Hill just one block from the Eastern Market Metro station on the orange and blue lines, advertised hours are 10 am to 5 pm every Sunday.

Coincidentally, the DC Antique Photo and Postcard Shows will also make its 30th annual spring appearance Sunday March 10 at its regular venue, Holiday Inn Rosslyn/Key Bridge, 1900 N. Ft. Myer Dr., Arlington, VA 22209.
Also managed by DMM, the show opens with an 8:30 AM $25 preview admission and continues 11 AM to 4 PM with a $10 public admission. Print out this page for a $5 discount on either the preview or public admission. Students and teachers with valid ID will be admitted free after 1 PM.
Added to this year's mix, which expanded with an additional room devoted solely to postcards last year, will be a main show room over-flowing with antique photography dealers into additional adjacent space. "It's going to be the largest event yet," promised DMM Show Manager Tom Rall.
Probably the longest running photo image show in the country, the transcontinental list of 50 experts from 25 states will offer a full range of antique photo imagery, including Daguerreotypes, CDVs, stereoviews, lantern slides, tintypes, postcards, albums, movie stills, press photos and more. Berman also reminded prospective exhibitors that the March 8 deadline for applications to this year's Very Cherry Market is fast approaching. A signature market in the Southwest waterfront fireworks festival event of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, the DMM-managed market was well received when it debuted last year.
Located at the Southwest Waterfront at 900 Water Street, SW along the historic Washington Channel and accessible by Metro (L'Enfant Plaza or Waterfront-SEU), walking, bike or car, The market will be part of an extensive amount of programming at the site and will feature a diverse mix of art, crafts, high quality merchandise, food, and products that highlight the Cherry Blossom experience. Advertised hours for the Festival are 2 - 9 PM on Saturday April 6, 2013. Online application, as well as complete information can be found  here.
