SEASON OPENERS
The next couple of weeks will be very busy for many Flea Market at Eastern Market exhibitors and Washingtonians.

Saturday, March 29, features the opening ceremonies for U Street Flea, a new weekend flea at 912 U Street, NW. The next weekend begins with Opening Day of baseball season here Friday, April 4; continues Saturday, April 5 with A Very Cherry Market, part of the National Cherry Blossom Festival (NCBF) at 900 Water Street SW; and the Flea Market at Eastern Market kicks off its "Music in the Yard" concert series Noon to 3 Sunday afternoon April 6 at 7th & C Streets, SE on Capitol Hill.

U STREET FLEA
Situated at 912 U St NW, a parking lot near the intersection of U Street and 9th St. NW, U Street Flea will feature a diverse mix of art, crafts, imports, antiques, collectibles and furniture every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m., Michael Berman, President of Diverse Markets Management (DMM) which also manages the popular Capitol Hill flea, announced last week.

"Actually, DMM was invited to manage the new market recently by Michael Sussman, who holds a license on the lot from the City," Berman explained. "We are extremely excited to be working with the 'Dean of D.C. Fleas.'" Sussman founded Georgetown Flea Market, the longest-running flea in the City, in the 1970s. Ward One City Councilman Jim Graham is expected to participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 12 p.m. Saturday.

A VERY CHERRY MARKET!
Berman said several Flea Market at Eastern Market exhibitors have been selected to participate in the "Very Cherry Market," Saturday, April 5, as part of the NCBF's Fireworks Festival.

Nearly four dozen exhibitors will participate in the DMM-managed market, which has been well received since it debuted in 2012.        

Located at the Southwest Waterfront at 900 Water Street, SW along the historic Washington Channel and accessible by Metro (L'Enfant Plaza or Waterfront-SEU), walking, bike or car, The market will be part of an extensive amount of programming at the site and will feature products that highlight the Cherry Blossom experience. Advertised hours for the Festival are 1 - 9 PM.

MUSIC IN THE YARD
First up Sunday, April 6 in the weekly seasonal series at The Flea Market at Eastern Market is the jazz and R&B sound of John Lewis. On April 13 Gina DeSimone & Pat Quinn will bring blues and swing to the regular Noon to 3 p.m. slot.

Rounding out the month will the Honkytonk sound of Diana Quinn and Mike Woods on Sunday, April 20 and perennial favorite Pianist Ian Waters on Sunday, April 27. 

"Our music series has become almost as popular as the flea market itself," said Berman. "Thanks should go to our musical consultant Donna Fletcher, who books the acts!"

ANACOSTIA BIG CHAIR FLEA MARKET
Berman also announced the Anacostia Big Chair Market will reopen for its second season Saturday, April 19.

Situated in the large parking lot at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr Ave and Pleasant Streets SE, the market will be held every Saturday from 10 - 4 p.m.  Berman said long time Flea Market Assistant Manager William "Rudy" Coates will again manage the market and is also expected to manage the U Street Flea Sundays. "We're proud that with the U Street Flea expansion, we're now operating markets in three out of four of the District quadrants."
