WHAT A WEEK IN WASHINGTON!
Today is Opening Day of Baseball Season; the National Park Service predicts peak Cherry Blossoms for The National Cherry Blossom Festival (NCBF) later this week; and to celebrate The Flea Market at Eastern Market will kick off its "Music in the Yard" concert series Noon to 3 Sunday afternoon at 7th & C Streets, SE on Capitol Hill.
First up in the weekly seasonal series is the jazz and R&B sound of John Lewis. Lewis will be followed on Sunday, April 14 by King Street Bluegrass. Rounding out the month will be perennial favorite Pianist Ian Walters on Sunday, April 21 and the Honkytonk sound of Diana Quinn and Mike Wood on Sunday, April 28.
"Our music series has become almost as popular as the flea market itself," said Michael Berman, president of Diverse Markets Management (DMM), which manages the event. "Thanks should go to our musical consultant Donna Fletcher, who books the acts!"
Located at 7th and C Streets SE on Capitol Hill just one block from the Eastern Market Metro station on the orange and blue lines, advertised hours are 10 am to 5 pm every Sunday. For more information on it and the complete music schedule through June, see Music in the Yard page.
A VERY CHERRY MARKET!
Berman said several Flea Market at Eastern Market exhibitors have also been selected to participate in Saturday's "Very Cherry Market," as part of the NCBF's Southwest Waterfront Fireworks Festival.
More than three dozen exhibitors will participate in the DMM-managed market, which was well received when it debuted last year.
Located at the Southwest Waterfront at 800 Water Street, SW along the historic Washington Channel and accessible by Metro (L'Enfant Plaza or Waterfront), walking, bike or car, The market will be part of an extensive amount of programming at the site and will feature a diverse mix of art, crafts, high quality merchandise, food, and products that highlight the Cherry Blossom experience. Advertised hours for the Festival are 1 - 9 PM. For more information on the Fireworks Festival: National Cherry Blossom Festival
