May 31, 2014: New Hire & Holiday Horizons at the Markets

DMM WELCOMES JESSICA BLASZCZAK
Diverse Markets Management (DMM), manager of The Flea Market at Eastern Market and other popular markets, today announced the hiring of Jessica Blaszczak, an experienced markets manager, as an assistant market manager.

"We became acquainted with Jessica recently as DMM considered expanding its Northern Virginia presence and I am excited to welcome her to our management team," said DMM President Michael Berman. "References from several of our market exhibitors who had previously worked with Jessica were unanimously glowing."

A crafter, who trades as This Little Piggy, Blaszczak previously served as Market Manager of the Ballston Arts Market for the Ballston Business Improvement District in Arlington, VA, and Assistant Manager of Fenton Street Market in Bethesda, MD. A member of DC Craft Mafia, she helped organize annual "Holiday Heist" and "Monster Craft Mafia" events, as well as DC Meet Market, all in Washington locations. Jessica herself has exhibited in more than 100 area art markets.

A graduate of Towson University with a major in mass communications, Blaszczak lives in Arlington with her husband and young son and will work part time with DMM.

Berman said, "Jess will spearhead our efforts to create and manage markets in Virginia and will help jury applicants for The Downtown Holiday Market (DHM) and Tysons Corner Center Christmas Market which DMM manages. We expect she'll also do on-site market management."

APPLICATIONS OPEN
Speaking of DHM, in a letter released to potential exhibitors, Berman wrote, "We are pleased to announce the 2014 Downtown Holiday Market exhibitor application process is now open. Celebrating its tenth year, this event boasts one of the most spectacular outdoor shopping environments in the region."

Co-produced by the Downtown DC Business Improvement District, the market is held in the vibrant Penn Quarter neighborhood in Downtown DC with the Donald W. Reynolds Center for American Art and Portraiture as its backdrop. Kicking off a 26-day consecutive run on Friday, November 28, the festival will again be located on the wide sidewalk on the north side of F Street, stretching from 7th to 9th Streets NW. Both ends of the market are within view of entrances to the Gallery Place Metro. Adjacent to the market are the Hotel Monaco, the Spy Museum, the Verizon Center and the bustling 7th Street Gallery Place corridor with many upscale restaurants.

Berman wrote, "The event continues to be a juried, high-quality crafts and gift market featuring a diverse display from exhibitors of many types of merchandise, as well as prepared food and beverage vendors." Application deadline is July 14.
