FLEA MARKET NEWS
Additions to both the corporate board of directors and also show management schedule were announced today by Michael Berman, President of Diverse Markets Management, LLC (DMM) a District of Columbia based company which operates The Flea Market at Eastern Market (FMEM) Sundays on Capitol Hill and other popular area markets.
Joining the DMM Board recently was Jeff Taliaferro, whose local JWT Financial Consulting firm has counted DMM among its client list for several years. "Jeff's transition to the company board was a no-brainer for us," Berman said. "We realized we needed someone with financial management skills to complement our show management strengths." Also on the board are Tom Rall, who started FMEM in 1984, and Vernon Burnett, FMEM's assistant manager since the 1990s.
An American University graduate, Taliaferro has extensive experience in internal financial management reporting and a diverse background in a wide range of industries including: Public Sector, Homeland Security, Commercial, State & Local and Healthcare. He previously served in financial management positions at Ideal Electrical Supply, Washington, DC; American Management Systems, Fairfax, VA; and Electronic Data Systems, Herndon, VA.

SPARKET: A CREATIVE MARKET
Berman also announced SPARKET, a weekly arts market in Crystal City, Virginia. This brand-new market is a collaborative effort with the Crystal City BID.
The Sparket Creative Market will operate Wednesdays, from 11am to 2pm, launching July 16 and running through November 17, 2014, on the wide shaded sidewalk of the 1800 block of Crystal Drive A diverse mix of art, crafts, handmade jewelry, accessories, bath/beauty and other local and handcrafted products are expected. As an additional draw, live-music and select food products will be part of the programming mix.
SPARKET will be managed by Jessica Blaszczak, an experienced arts market manager, from Arlington, VA. The Towson University graduate previously served as Markets Manager of the Ballston Arts Market in Arlington and was assistant manager of Fenton Street Market in Silver Spring, MD. A handcrafter who has also exhibited in more than 100 area art markets, Blaszczak has also been an active member of DC Craft Mafia, a chapter of the worldwide Craft Mafia group of independent crafters.
"We were fortunate to add Jessica to our staff just as DMM was considering an expansion into Arlington and was offered a chance to manage the weekday market in Crystal City," Berman said.

DOWNTOWN HOLIDAY MARKET APPLICATION DEADLINE APPROCHES
Speaking of exhibitor applications, Berman reminded potential exhibitors interested in applying for the 10th Annual Downtown Holiday Market, the popular seasonal market on F Street between 7th and 9th Streets NW in Downtown Washington, that the deadline is July 14.
