NOT SO FAR AWAY, A HAPPENING HOLIDAY SEASON
During the Holiday Season--besides Sundays at The Flea Market at Eastern Market on Capitol Hill and 26-consecutive days beginning November 28 at The Downtown Holiday, Market-Diverse Markets Management (DMM) President Michael Berman announced last week the company will also manage a Tysons Corner Center Christmas Market at the popular Virginia Mall in December.
Berman wrote DMM is " ... pleased to announce the second annual Tysons Corner Center Christmas Market. This event will be a spectacular outdoor shopping experience inspired by the traditional German Christmas Markets. The event will take place for 20 days during prime holiday shopping time. It will open Friday, December 5, and will run through Wednesday, December 24. Hours will be from 11am-9pm each day, ending at 4pm, December 24.
"Located on the grand new Plaza at new mall entrances from the Silver Line Metro, the festival will be in a spectacular new space surrounded by amenities, including an ice skating rink, a recently opened office tower, a new Lord & Taylor entrance, a Shake Shack, and outdoor seating around fire pits. A stage, dazzling Christmas tree, entertainment, beer garden and other festive and engaging activity will support the intimate gift purchasing and fun shopping experience of the market for 20+ exhibitor booths, plus a large outdoor, tented German merchandiser, Kathe Wohlfahrt store."
DMM Director of Communications Tom Rall, a 30+-year outdoor market manager, predicted, "This will become the best market for exhibitor sales of all the markets with which I've been associated. I expect to see pedestrian access to the new mall entrances from the new subway stop to top 20,000 customer trips daily in December. And this is in addition to that generated from Mall signage, already in place, to the Plaza destination."
Berman said the exhibitor application deadline for the juried Tysons market is August 19. He noted that applications are closed for The Downtown Holiday Market, celebrating its 10th anniversary. "Jurying is completed. We expect to begin exhibitor notifications this week and complete the line-up by August 17." He said the flea market, with more than 25 years of December selling, has no application deadline for the holiday season, "though later applicants risk getting put on our waiting list. We're optimistic expected redevelopment of the site won't start before the end of the year."

SPARKET MARKET PROVES POPULAR
Wednesday, August 6 marks the one-month anniversary of SPARKET, a DMM-managed weekly arts market in Crystal City, Virginia, and DMM Market Manager, Jessica Blaszczak, is more enthusiastic than ever about the venue. "There's great pedestrian traffic now and it should get even better as the large local office crowd returns from summer vacations," she reported.
Situated on the wide shaded sidewalk on the 1800 block of Crystal Drive (a collaborative effort with the Crystal City BID ) the market is among the Crystal Shops mall, several popular restaurants and retail establishments. Crystal City Metro is two blocks away and there is plenty of public parking among major office buildings, apartments and hotels.
The SPARKET Creative Market operates on Wednesdays, from 11am to 2pm, through November 17, 2014. A diverse mix of art, crafts, handmade jewelry, accessories, bath/beauty and other local and handcrafted products is offered. As an additional draw, live-music and select food products are part of the programming mix.
