HOLIDAY MARKET TO BE FEATURED INTERNATIONALLY

Here's an email message we received early last month: "I'm contacting you from Cara Magazine, the in-flight publication for Aer Lingus airlines. For an upcoming issue we are doing a round up of the best Christmas Market Cities from around the world, with Washington DC's Downtown Holiday Market being included."  Asking us for hi-resolution images was Assistant Editor Eoin Mulligan of "Ireland's third highest-rated magazine" which is published by IMAGE publications based in Dublin.

Another such request arrived later in the month from Juvy Garcia "researching for a story about Christmas markets in the United States. The story will be part of a newsletter published exclusively for teachers by the National Education Association."

"Of course we're elated to comply immediately with such requests," said Berman. "There's really nothing better than free world-wide publicity.

Berman recently announced that the Market has sent out acceptance emails to participants.  A record number of applicants were received from across the country to participate. The event is a juried, high-quality crafts and gift market featuring a diverse display from exhibitors of many types of merchandise, as well as prepared food and beverage vendors.  "We are excited to have such a great selection, with both reliable favorites and some new surprise exhibitors and products.  Stay tuned for the full list of participants and their dates on DowntownHolidayMarket.com", said Berman who is busy updating the website and planning the seasonal spectacle.

This yearThe Downtown Holiday Market will operate for 29 consecutive days. Opening on Friday, November 25, it will run continuously through Friday, December 23.  Hours will be from Noon to 8 p.m. each day. on the wide sidewalk of F Street, between 7th and 9th Streets NW, in front of the Smithsonian Museum for American Art and Portraiture. Celebrating its twelfth year, this event boasts one of the most spectacular outdoor shopping environments in the region.

FACES OF THE MARKET: 2016

The new photo essay of flea market exhibitors, Faces of the Market:2016, can be found here. The photo presentation was created by DMM Graphic Designer Chul Beom Park from photographs taken on a recent Sunday by Boston Photographer Daniel Tedeschi.

Tedeschi is a long-time associate of DMM Assistant Manager Brady Rall and "DMM took advantage of his visit to do a new essay," Berman said.

Featuring portraits of about forty exhibitors, the essay is one of a series of such photo essays dating back to 2003. Others were published in 2009 and 2013.

"We have always thought it's the people who make a market great and we've been fortunate to have so many great people participate for so many years," reminisced Berman.

The Flea Market at Eastern Market is now in its 33rd year of operation, Sundays on Capitol Hill. Advertised hours for the flea, located on 7th St. SE across Pennsylvania Ave, SE from the Eastern Market station on Metro's Orange, Blue and Silver lines; are 10 am to 5 pm every Sunday.
