Oct 20, 2014: Prepping For The Holidays

Diverse Markets Management (DMM), the D.C. company that runs both The Flea Market at Eastern Market, Sundays at 7th & C Streets SE on Capitol Hill and The Downtown Holiday Market (DHM) that begins a four-week outing on Friday, November 28; has been busy prepping for the holidays.

In anticipation of DHM's Tenth Annual edition downtown, its ninth consecutive year on the broad sidewalk between 7th and 9th Streets NW in front of the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery and American Art Museum, DMM recently posted the entire Exhibitor list on the show web site, here.  The festive outdoor event boasts more than 160 unique exhibitors and artisans offering crafts and gifts. DHM is a collaborative production with The Downtown DC Business Improvement District.

Berman noted that in addition to 33 new participants at the Holiday Market, the DHM exhibitor list includes many Flea Market exhibitors who "will also be giving up their regular Sunday spaces, so it should be a good time for some newcomers and part timers to make reservations for the holiday season." For information on making flea market reservations click here. Applications for DHM are no longer being accepted.

Berman also recently notified exhibitor acceptances for the second annual Tysons Corner Center Christmas Market. Part of a three-month long Winterfest promotion at the popular Northern Virginia mall, the event will be a spectacular outdoor shopping experience inspired by the traditional German Christmas Markets. The event will take place for 20 days during prime holiday shopping time. It will open Friday, December 5, and will run through Wednesday, December 24. Hours will be from 11am-9pm each day, ending at 4pm, December 24.

Located on the grand new Plaza at new mall entrances from the Silver Line Metro, the festival will be surrounded by amenities, including an ice skating rink, a recently opened office tower, a new Lord & Taylor entrance, a Shake Shack, and more.  A stage, dazzling Christmas tree, entertainment, beer garden and other festive and engaging activity will support the intimate gift purchasing and fun shopping experience of the market for 20+ exhibitor booths, plus a large outdoor, tented German merchandiser, Kathe Wohlfahrt store.

Berman also said SPARKET, the weekday lunch time market in Crystal City, Arlington, VA, "has been well received, particularly recent Harvest fest promotions."  This first year market is a collaborative effort with the Crystal City BID.
Operating Wednesdays, from 11am to 2pm through November 12 on the wide shaded sidewalk of the 1800 block of Crystal Drive, the market features a diverse mix of art, crafts, handmade jewelry, accessories, bath/beauty and other local and handcrafted products are expected. Live-music and select food products are part of the programming mix. Further information and exhibitor applications for SPARKET are available here.

Looking further ahead Berman also announced that applications for the 32nd Annual DC Antique Photo and Postcard Shows on March 15, 2015, at the Holiday Inn Rosslyn, 1900 Ft. Myer Dr., Arlington, VA, are now available for download or online registration at AntiquePhotoShow.com.

"The always well-received  Blue Panamuse will conclude the weekly Music In The Yards flea market music series that began in our music tent in the spring," announced Berman, who also promised "two or three acts daily in our heated tent at DHM."
The band will perform two sets of its acoustic blues and swing sounds between Noon and 3 p.m. Sunday October 27.
