Dec 6, 2007: Holidays at the Market

Get ready to enjoy a unique outdoor shopping experience in the heart of Downtown from Friday, December 7 - Sunday, December 23 at the 2007 Downtown Holiday Market.

The market will be open daily from Noon to 8:00 pm on the F Street sidewalk between 7th and 8th Streets, NW in front of the Reynolds Center for American Art and Portraiture. A festive atmosphere and live musical entertainment will accompany more than 50 local exhibitors and artisans selling a diverse array of goods and high-quality gift items, such as photography, jewelry, knits, paintings, cultural crafts, seasonal beverages, prepared foods and more.

The third annual Market produced by the Downtown BID in partnership with Diverse Markets Management (DMM) promises to be a shopping experience unlike any other in the city. The decorative, cheerful European-style marketplace is a feast for the senses. The 2007 Downtown Holiday Market continues to convey that Downtown DC is a dynamic and vibrant place to experience.

Flea Market at Eastern Market Communication Director Michael Berman, Executive Director of DMM, said the "Downtown Holiday Market presents a viable business opportunity for local talent. 140 artisan-exhibitors will rotate through the market; 26% of them are DC residents. Of the musical groups that will perform on the Market stage, 44% of these performances will be by District-based musicians."

On opening day there will be a variety of exciting entertainment including DC-based musicians Bemsha Jazz and Madison Glorious Sounds as well as guest appearances and picture-taking with celebrities from the new Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. Several food and beverage vendors will offer a variety of interesting savory, sweet and seasonal treats.

Downtown Holiday Market media partners include: WAMU, The Washington Examiner and WASH FM.

Jean-Louis Monfraix Receives Awards

In the last issue of this newsletter we incorrectly identified the award-winning bird picture photographed by Jean-Louis Monfraix. The picture is of a "Blue-Footed Booby Displaying," not a "Blue-Footed Booty." In addition, only the "Blue- Footed Booby Displaying" is now in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History Nature's Best Photography Gallery. "Booby" and dozens of other Monfraix photographs will be exhibited both at the Downtown Holiday Market and The Flea Market at Eastern Market this holiday season. This View of Life
