December 10, 2015: Among The Best!

MARKETS ARE AMONG THE BEST IN THE US AND THE WORLD!

Polls keep popping up about the best markets around the world and country and the markets managed by Diverse Markets Management in Washington, DC continue to make the best of lists.

In 2010 The Flea Market at Eastern Market was once ranked second in the world in this Huffington Post poll of the world's best fleas.

Now, in 2015 DMM's Downtown Holiday Market running Noon to 8 p.m. daily  through December 23 on F Street between 7th and 9th Streets NW, has been nominated for USA Today's 10 Best Poll of the nation's top holiday festivals. Currently ranked number eight on the list of twenty we'd appreciate our readers voting here. And enthusiasts can vote every day until the poll ends December 21!

Exhibitors at both the Sunday Flea Market at Eastern Market (FMEM), 10 to 5, at 7th Street and Pennsylvania Ave SE and the Downtown Holiday Market "are reporting record sales, definitely helped by unseasonably dry and warm weather," said DMM President Michael Berman.

The Downtown Holiday Market is now in its 11th year and The Flea Market at Eastern Market "first began December sales in 1991" according to Tom Rall, who founded FMEM in 1984 and is now DMM Director of Communications. "It's just so rewarding to see both markets probably having their best holiday seasons yet," Rall exclaimed.

The Downtown Holiday Market got a particularly nice boost for its Black Friday opening November 27 from NBC4 in this report by Mark Segraves. Titled "Thousands Skip Mall, Head to D. C. Holiday Market," the segment featured live entertainment from the market stage, interviews with Berman, exhibitors and customers and, in general, documented the appeal traditional outdoor market shopping has people.

"Come on out to both markets this weekend; enjoy the weather and the ambiance," Berman urged, "and get all your holiday shopping done."

JOHNATHAN BLUM RETROSPECTIVE OPENS TONIGHT

Long time exhibitor Artist Johnathan Blum, who for several years has worked primarily out of his Brooklyn gallery, has returned to Washington for the Holidays.

In a recent email announcement Blum wrote, "I'm excited that my retrospective, 50 YEARS OF JONATHAN BLUM, an exhibition that celebrated my 50th birthday, is coming to the CAOS on F at 923 F St. N.W. in Washington DC.

THE OPENING RECEPTION WILL BE ON THURSDAY, DECEMBER 10th, 6:30 - 10pm. All my friends in DC, please mark your calendars. It should be a fun evening. The paintings in the show are from the last 30 years. Some are from private collections and others are available for sale. The show will be up through January 31, 2016. Weekend hours are 12-6pm; all other hours are by appointment.

What's even better is that the CAOS on F Gallery is half a block from the Downtown Holiday Market, where I'll be selling every day from 12-8pm, Dec 11 through Dec 23. Before and after the market, I can personally give you a tour of the exhibition. Get in touch with me directly if you want to make an appointment."
