Announcing the Crystal City Market

WASHINGTON, DC (June 30, 2008)--
Diverse
Markets Management, a spin-off of the Flea
Market at Eastern Market, announced today a new
fall market in bustling Crystal City in Arlington,
Virginia. Crystal Market will operate every
Thursday through Saturday for 6 weeks. It will
open Thursday, September 18th, and will run for a
total of 18 days ending on Saturday, October
25th. Hours will be from 11:30am-6:30pm each
day. Additionally, there will be two special event
Sunday markets in coordination with Vintage
Crystal, a wine festival, on Sunday, September
21st and the Marine Corps Marathon's leg through
Crystal City on Sunday, October
26th.
The market will be located in the park at 2121
Crystal Drive directly across the street from a
popular strip of restaurants, retail, and entrances
to the Crystal City Shops. The Crystal City Metro
is a short walk, 3 blocks away and plenty of public
parking (free garage parking on weekdays after 4
PM and all day on weekends) is available nearby.
"This will be an exciting new market experience in
a wonderful setting," enthused Michael Berman,
Executive Director of Diverse Markets. The market
is co-sponsored by the Crystal City Business
Improvement District, and will target the
approximately 30,000 office workers, 16,000
residents, and nearly 5,000 hotel rooms. "We are
breaking ground in a whole new neighborhood. I
think the area will really benefit while exhibitors
reach new clientele," Berman said.

July at Eastern Market

New Hours July 1st kicks off
expanded hours for the East Hall
merchants at Eastern Market. As Michael
Bowers, of Bowers Cheese announced, "we are
now open longer to serve you better!" The new
hours at Eastern Market, effective July 1st are:
Tuesday - Friday - 7 am to 7 pm, Saturdays - 7
am to 6 pm, Sundays - 9 am to 5pm. The Market
will be closed on Friday July 4th.
Independence Day
July 4th on Capitol Hill has traditionally meant
Capitol Hill Cluster Schools' Capitol Hill
Community Parade. This year the parade ends at
Eastern Market and a post-parade picnic will be
held in the Hine School playground, adjacent to
the East Hall. The 12pm-4pm event is sponsored
by Naval Lodge No.4 and will feature food,
entertainers, live music, prizes, vendors, games
and more. The event is a family-friendly fundraiser
to benefit the Capitol Hill Cluster Schools.

Renovations Continue
Renovations and construction activity abounds at
Eastern Market. Despite scaffolding, chain-link
fences, and dug up sidewalks surrounding the
building; outdoor weekend markets continue.
Currently the South Hall roof is nearing
completion, the building has new windows and
skylights and the North Hall is closed for work to
begin inside.

The Magic of Magic Lanterns

An international magic lantern festival will be
celebrated in the Washington, DC area July 10
through 13 according to Tom Rall, Flea Market at
Eastern Market Manager who is also chairing the
13th International Convention of The Magic Lantern
Society of the United States and
Canada.
Four continents will be represented in the
programs, which recreate and examine the popular
19th and early 20th century medium. Free
admission festival venues include the National
Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian Institution's Freer
Gallery Meyer Auditorium, the Historical Society of
Washington and the Goethe-Institut.
"Customers who have been introduced to magic
lantern slides through my stall at the market will
want to attend the presentations, sales room and
auction at the convention hotel," said Rall. A
single $10 admission fee covers all the activity
throughout each day at Crowne Plaza National
Airport, 1480 Crystal Drive, Arlington, VA on both
Friday, July 11 and Sunday, July 13.
